Abstract

Accumulation of Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium (Mg) were determined in thallus as well as in its
rock substratum of three lichen species i.e. Peltula patellata, P. placodizans and Phylliscum
indicum, found growing on monuments of Gwalior Division. Out of three species estimated for
their calcium and magnesium accumulation in their thalli, Peltula patellata and Phylliscum indicum
accumulated the higher concentration of calcium i.e. 198.6±0.4 and 136.8±0.95 μgg-1 dry weight
respectively. Phylliscum indicum and Peltula patellata exhibits higher accumulation of magnesium
i.e. 376.8±2.25 and 293.05±0.96 μgg-1 dry weight respectively. All the three lichen species exhibit
higher accumulation of calcium and magnesium in their thalli as compared with the substrates
they are growing.
